Will my community college credits transfer to NBBC? We do accept college credits taken while a student is in High School. If you are interested in pursuing this direction, it would still be advisable to talk with our Registrar's office about your individual situation and plans. You can reach that office by calling our toll free number, 888-4-Northland.
Northland Baptist Bible College accepts transfer students and grants credit for previous college–level work according to the transfer credit guidelines set forth in the Academic Information section of Northland's catalog. The applicant must have left his previous institution in good standing. A student who was dismissed or suspended from another college for disciplinary reasons must submit with his application a letter explaining the situation and circumstances involved.
How much does a Northland education cost? The total room, board, tuition and fees for the entire 2008-2009 school year is $16,640.
Tuition for full-time students costs $5,360 per semester. Part-time student tuition costs $447 per credit hour. Additional matriculation and student benefit fees total $380 per semester.
Room and board costs $2,580 per semester.
The total cost for a full-time student who lives on campus and does not qualify for a scholarship is $8,320 per semester. The total cost per year is $16,640.
Make sure to check and see if you qualify for one of our two scholarships. We have the Ministry Scholarship that is worth $4000 per year and the Academic Scholarship which is worth $3000 per year.
You can also apply for up to $4,731 in the form of a Pell grant. Many of our students were able to receive from $5,000 to $8,000 in scholarships and grants last year bringing the total cost down to between $5,580 and $8,580. This does not factor in other money you can earn toward your school bill in our work-study program. You should also talk with your parents, Pastor and financial advisers about the possibility of a Federally subsidized Stafford Loan. Your parents may also want to help by securing a low interest Parent Plus Loan. You can read more about this here .
What rules can I expect to find at Northland? The rules at Northland are based on Biblical principles and practicalities. Some of our rules are because we believe the Bible gives a specific principle relating to that area and our desire is to help our students live in a way that pleases the Lord as well as develop godly patterns that will last a lifetime.
Other rules are based on the fact that we have almost 1000 people living in very close proximity which means we have to keep a more controlled atmosphere so everyone can live in peace and accomplish the purpose of getting an education and growing spiritually.
Almost all of our students would tell you that the rules are not a daily focus or a problem. Sure, sometimes rules seem to get in the way of what we want to do, but if God has called you to Northland, this will be the exception.
If you have specific questions about these or other areas, don't feel embarrassed to contact us at admission@nbbc.edu and ask. We won't think negative of you. We get a lot of specific questions. You can also contact one of our students or better yet, come visit and see for yourself.
Rules – Do you have a dress code? Many wonder about our dress code for guys and girls. Without going into full detail here, basically our rules center around the Biblical principles of modesty and appropriateness. We want to have a campus academic atmosphere of professionalism and excellence. Our classroom attire is dresses and skirts for the ladies; and shirt, tie and nice pants for the guys. After chapel, the guys do not need to wear ties but still need a collared shirt and nice casual pants for class. On weekends, after dinner on weekdays, and when going off campus to town and private homes our ladies may wear nice slacks.
Rules – Do you have a music policy? We encourage our students to listen to good and godly music, understand Biblical principles of what good music is and learn discernment in their music choices for their future families and ministry leadership roles. We believe music should praise and honor the character of God and we ask students to join us in developing godly music standards in their lives. Although we do not believe all music that is unapproved at NBBC is sinful, we have chosen to be above reproach and approve those things that are excellent in the music arena. With this in mind, there will be a range of both Secular and Christian music (Pop, R&B, Rap, etc) that will not be allowed.
The Procedure for checking a student’s music upon arrival to campus is a relatively simple one. We believe God has sent us godly students who seek to honor Him with their lives. We also believe that there is a constant spirit of revival on our campus where God is at work sanctifying our students through the Holy Spirit and a faculty and staff who are aggressively involved in Biblical discipleship. Based on these beliefs about God and our campus community, we ask our students to sign an agreement affirming their compliance with our music policy. (The agreement states that all music they listen to on or off campus while a student at Northland fits in to our institutional approved music category. ) Appropriate accountability is then afforded by roommates, godly friends and a unique godly atmosphere of transparency and trust in our campus family.
We know that not all music fits neatly into the approved or unapproved music guidelines that we as an institution have established and therefore requires godly discernment and leadership for approval. Since our mission at Northland is to “train servant leaders for Great Commission living,” we have taken this opportunity to train our room leaders to assist us in guiding students in these decisions. If a student has music, whether Christian or Secular, that does not fit into a specific genre of music nor does it fall specifically into the approved or unapproved categories (Rock, Rap, R&B etc), room leaders and dorm staff will help clarify and uphold Northland policy. Ample training is provided to our dorm leaders to help them in making these decisions.
Since there is a relatively small amount of music that falls into this “uncategorized” area in our policy, we feel this is a safe and yet powerful way to train our young adult students for future ministry rather than simply providing lists of approved songs and musicians and making all the decisions for them.
If you have particular questions about various music, our music philosophy, policies or procedures, you can talk with us upon arrival or give us a call. We would love to explain the Biblical principles involved so you can think through your music tastes and standards. Even though in the long run your boundaries may not be exactly where ours are as an institution, we believe holding a high standard for our students is best for our campus community and the fulfillment of our mission, values and goals.
Rules – Do you have a dating policy? Many have questions about our dating standards. First of all, we allow it! We also believe that parents need to play a major role in your dating life, and we make an effort to include them in the process. Beyond that we have rules that will help guard the purity of your relationships. There are plenty of places to date on campus where there is enough privacy to have personal conversations, but there is also accountability set in place too. Students never feel that they are being "watched," but also know that they don't have to worry about temptations we all face. Students can date in our Rec Hall, the Student Commons area, The Daily Grind and various other places on campus like the dining hall.
Our students can go off campus in odd numbered mixed groups and dating is allowed with upperclassmen or faculty/staff chaperons.
What kind of financial aid is available? The 2008-2009 academic year’s tuition, room and board, and fees total $16,640. While most Northland students receive some form of assistance, not all is from the Pell program. Many of our students receive assistance from scholarships, their home church, family, friends, or anonymous donors. Although the cost of your college education may cause you stress, we want to work with you to find ways to meet your needs. Here are a few ways Northland can help.
- The Pell Grant could provide up to$4,731 and is distributed on a needs basis.
- The Academic Competitiveness Grant is based on your completed high school transcripts.
- The Ministry Scholarship, one of Northland’s internal scholarships, awards $2000 per semester.
- The Academic Scholarship is the other internal Northland scholarship and it grants $1500 per semester to students with a qualifying Grade Point Average (GPA).
- On-Campus Work-Study offers students a chance to earn money to be put on their school bill during the academic year.

What is Northland’s faculty like?
You will find an outstanding faculty at Northland. We are thankful that God has provided men and women of great knowledge and wisdom as well as practical experience in the disciplines and courses that they teach. Most have advanced degrees and all have the experience and education to be highly capable of teaching material in a way that you will appreciate and learn from. Our mission is to train you as a servant-leader so you can go and fulfill the Great Commission in the ministry God leads you to.
Northland's faculty and staff are also committed to establishing and maintaining a personal relationship with each student. Personal counseling, guidance, and one–on–one discipleship are available anytime a student requests such assistance. In the faculty and staff's effort to be available for students and to develop a relationship with them, Northland has established Kampus Kids, which assigns students to different campus "families." Each family has about six Kampus Kids. The families get together periodically for the purposes of encouragement and fun.
Can freshmen bring their cars to campus? Northland students are allowed to bring cars on campus. There is a small $30 registration fee per year. Of course you also have to have insurance but we recommend that anyhow !
Students are usually willing to take other students with them when they go to town. Students may use the Northland Shuttle to and from the Green Bay airport for a $50 fee with prior arrangement.
Where is Northland located?
 |
Located in the beautiful north woods of Wisconsin, Northland is surrounded by 1,500 acres of forest in a region still dominated by the timber industry. Camp Lake is located on campus, and four other lakes are within easy hiking distance. Located behind the Fine Arts Center, Reflection Lake is a favorite site for fishing, canoeing, and enjoying God's creation. Trails surrounding the lake provide a relaxing, picturesque location for hiking. Off-campus attractions include many waterfalls and golf courses. The region is especially popular in the fall months for hunting and during the winter months for snowmobiling and skiing. Iron Mountain, Michigan (located about |
a half hour north),

Can I use a loan to pay for college at Northland?
Over the years, Northland has had a “no-debt policy.” The goal behind this policy was to help our students graduate debt-free, allowing them to immediately enter the ministry. However, as time has passed, families have continually asked NBBC to allow them the freedom to use all of the resources available to help them pay for college. We still believe that God can and does miraculously provide money for school bills, but it is not our intention to put God in a box and to try to dictate to families how God should work in their individual circumstances.
Since it is ultimately the responsibility of the student and their family to decide these matters in the light of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit’s leading, we will defer to them. At the same time, we will also consistently sound a warning against excessive debt for those going into the ministry. With this in mind, Northland is now participating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program which includes Stafford subsidized and unsubsidized loans as well as the Parent Plus loan program. This is the only Federal loan program we will participate in. In accordance with our beliefs, this program seeks to place reasonable caps on the amount a student can borrow and allows parents to carry a large portion of the responsibility by making low-interest loans available to them for up to the cost of education. You can read more about this program and its advantages by visiting www.studentaid.ed.gov and reading the sections on Funding, Stafford Loans and Parent Plus Loans.
Finally, regardless of what students, parents, and pastors decide concerning the financing of educational expenses, our heartfelt desire is that they would carefully consider any incurring of debt in light of a biblical philosophy of stewardship. In whatever financial counseling we do with our students, we will continue to put a strong emphasis upon God dependence and will caution them not to mount up a heavy debt load. We still reserve the right not to certify a loan or to certify it for less than the amount requested if we feel that the loan would not be in the best interest of the student’s future ministry. If you have questions or comments, please direct them to our Financial Aid office by sending e-mail to financialaid@nbbc.edu or by calling us at 1-888-4-Northland, ext. 3150.
