Northland Registrar's Office

The Lord recently blessed my wife and me with our fourth child. Now with four boys ages seven, five, and one month and a girl age two, trips to the grocery store are something much more than routine—each outing is an adventure! Though our children are still quite young, we have already begun to think about their college educations. Nowadays, it is almost a necessity to begin planning and saving early on for what will be one of the most significant investments most families will ever make, their children’s college education. So, as I ponder what the Lord has for my children, I find myself wondering what school I will direct them to. My first concern will not be cost, or location, or even academic reputation, though each of these is an important factor in the decision. My first concern will be that my children live and learn in a thoroughly Christian environment. I want to know that the faculty who will instruct and mentor them will do so from lives characterized by integrity and a vital relationship with the Lord. I want to be assured that my children will live and study and socialize with young people who will promote rather than hinder their growth in the Lord. And I want to observe an administration committed to guarding a mission which reflects the godly values I want instilled in my children. In short, I want my children to be in a place which mirrors what I desire for my family.

As a parent, I know that the greatest gift I could ever give my children is the example of a faithful walk with the Lord, so that when I instruct and admonish them in word, it comes from a heart surrendered to the Lord. As a faculty member and administrator at Northland, I know this is the greatest thing I could ever do for our students here. When I step into class to teach or when I greet a student on the sidewalk or counsel him in my office, I frequently remember that I am interacting with someone’s child. And just as I want my children to be treated—encouraged, challenged, and loved—so I endeavor to treat the child of the parent who has entrusted him to our care. What a responsibility and privilege it is to be a parent! What a responsibility and privilege it is to act on behalf of other Christian parents to educate their children! At Northland we take this responsibility very seriously and endeavor to honor well those parents who have entrusted their children to our care. We demand a high standard of ourselves and of those students God sends our way. To do anything less would be to dishonor that precious trust which has been given to us. So, as one parent to another, I would ask that you take a look at Northland when deciding where to send your children for their college education. We will do our best before the Lord to treat your child as you would in our place: as an individual not a number, as a disciple not a customer, as a family member not a stranger, and as a child entrusted to us by our Heavenly Father. May the Lord bless and guide you as you consider your choice of college. If we can be of any help in any way, please do not hesitate to let us know,
